Swine Flu Alert in Cachar and Hailakndi: One Child dies in Hailakandi

Swine Flu cases have surface in Hailakandi and in Cachar district of Assam. A reports indicate that one-and-a-half-year old baby girl child lost life due to infected of Swine Flu H1F1 Virus in Hailakandi. ย 

The girl child experiened symptoms of fever and severe cough on April 28 and was promptly admitted to SK Roy Civil Hospital in Hailakandi on the following day, as reported by her family members. Subsequently, on April 30, she was transferred to SMCH around 9pm, where doctors conducted a swab sample test using RT-PCR. The results, confirmed on May 4, revealed that the infant had contracted the H1N1 virus.

According to Dr. K Thambalsana Rongmei, the district’s immunization and surveillance officer in Hailakandi, the girl’s family members left SMCH against medical advice, and tragically, the infant passed away while en route home.
“She was initially admitted to the ICU in SMCH, and due to breathing difficulties, the doctors recommended putting her on a ventilator. However, despite the medical advice, her family members took her away forcefully, and unfortunately, she passed away before reaching home,” explained Rongmei.

Hailakandi Authority implemented a high alert on Swine Flu

After this incident the Hailakandi Authority have immediately implemented a high alert across the district to prevent the spread of the swine flu virus.

Dr. KTS Rongmei, the district surveillance officer affiliated with the Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP), paid a visit to the residence of the deceased individual. During the visit, Dr. Rongmei directed paramedical staff and ASHA workers to initiate a comprehensive door-to-door survey within the Behul medical sub-centre vicinity, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Lala Block Primary Health Centre in Hailakandi district. The objective of this survey is to identify any cases of H1N1 infections and take necessary measures accordingly.

Hailakandi’s District Commissioner, Nisarg Hivare, has officially confirmed that there is no outbreak of swine flu in the region.

Four Child Affected in Cachar District

In Cachar three children a teenager currently under treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital due to infected of the Swine Flu virus.

Dr. Ashutosh Barman, the Joint Health Director of Cachar, said people should stay calm and focus on preventing the illness. The people affected by swine flu, from babies to teenagers, are getting better with treatment. One person has already left the hospital.

Dr. Ajit Dey, a professor at Silchar Medical College, said swine flu is like regular flu.

He said we shouldn’t panic but we should wash our hands often, wear masks, and stay away from crowded places. The health department is telling people to go to the doctor if they keep feeling sick.

To stop the illness from spreading, they are sending out warnings and telling people to wash their hands, wear masks, and keep sick people away from others. They are also testing people who have flu symptoms and giving them the right treatment.

Some Symptoms of Swine Flu

  1. Fever: Typically high, often above 100ยฐF (37.8ยฐC), accompanied by chills.
  2. Cough: Dry or productive cough, sometimes severe.
  3. Sore throat: Irritation or pain in the throat, often accompanied by difficulty swallowing.
  4. Body aches: Generalized muscle pain and body aches, which can be quite severe.
  5. Fatigue: Profound tiredness and weakness, often more pronounced than with a regular cold.
  6. Headache: Persistent and sometimes severe headaches, often accompanied by a feeling of pressure in the head.
  7. Chills: Cold shivers running through the body, often associated with fever spikes.
  8. Runny or stuffy nose: Nasal congestion, accompanied by either clear or thick mucus discharge.
  9. Diarrhea: Some individuals may experience gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, or abdominal pain.
  10. Vomiting: Occasional vomiting can occur, particularly in children.

It’s important to note that not everyone with swine flu will experience all of these symptoms, and the severity can vary widely from person to person.
