At the time of the incident she was in uniform to. But instead of taking her to the destination, he took the route through Shibcolony, claiming there was a jam on the main road.
He then took a wrong turn onto a dark, isolated road. But somehow, she managed to come out from the situation. A complaint has filed in the Rangirkhari Police Outpost, Silchar. This incident raise alarms the security of woman in the area. So, woman be aware.
The Student said, “I’m from Karimganj, and I’m not familiar with all the streets and alleys of Silchar. So, when I got into the tuk-tuk that day and asked the driver to go to Subhash Nagar, he told me there was heavy traffic on the Shamshan Road and that he would take a route through Shib Colony instead. I knew a little about that road but didn’t know all the connecting lanes. When we reached an intersection, the driver didn’t take the bridge to Subhash Nagar but took a different road, saying it was a shortcut. I asked him to stop the vehicle, but instead, he sped up. It was a deserted road, and I started to panic. I froze and didn’t know what to do. Then he made a phone call and said in Sylheti, ‘Aajk paisi ekta re, tora aay’ (I have got someone today, you guys come over).”
Fortunately, she got a call from a friend, and to protect herself, she pretended to be sharing her location with the police. Despite this, the driver and a young, intoxicated passenger didn’t stop. Describing the tuk-tuk driver, she said, “He had many rakhis tied to his hands and was wearing a saffron t-shirt. The driver was about 40 years old, and he had a passenger who was around 25 years old and intoxicated.”
In a desperate attempt to escape, after traveling a few hundred meters, she spotted a parked auto-rickshaw with a woman inside and screamed for help. The auto driver intervened, asking where the tuk-tuk was going, and the tuk-tuk driver said “Public School Road,” even though she had asked to be taken to Subhash Nagar. Taking advantage of the brief pause, she jumped out of the tuk-tuk and got into the auto-rickshaw. “I live alone with my mother in Subhash Nagar. I don’t deserve this from a town I always thought was safe for women,” she said, shaken by the experience.
Later, she went to the Rangirkhari Town Outpost and submitted an FIR application. Because of her panic during the incident, she couldn’t note the tuk-tuk’s registration number, which makes it difficult to file a formal FIR. However, the police at Rangirkhari Thana assured her that a general diary would be filed.โ
