The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) has announced new traffic restrictions for vehicles on the Katigorah Gamon Bridge, over the Barak River, Cachar, Assam on NH-6 for safety reasons.

This decision was taken based on a report recommended by bridge expert Alok Bhowmick. The decision confirmed in a meeting on October 7, 2024 with NHIDCLโ€™s Regional officers, Guwahati, and Deputy General Manager (P), Gaurang Deoghare.

The expert report, dated October 8, 2024, noted that the bridge is in poor condition and requires immediate action and heavy vehicle could not pass on it.

Based on the report, NHIDCL has decided that only light commercial vehicles, private cars, scooters, and auto-rickshaws will be allowed to cross the bridge.

Heavy commercial vehicles, truck prohibited until further notice to ensure safety.
To enforce these restrictions, NHIDCL decided to install height gauges of 3 meters over the next two days. These gauges will block access to ensure only the approved vehicles can pass.

Gaurang Deoghare, the NHIDCL Deputy General Manager, has asked everyone to quickly share this information in the area for safety reasons. This measure is intended to keep the public safe and to help the Katigorah Gamon Bridge last longer.

Therefore, authorities also urge all drivers and transporters to follow the new rules given by NHIDCL.

Finally, remain vigilant for any updates concerning the use of the bridge on NH-6.
