Durga Puja Sashti is the sixth day of the Durga Puja or Navaratri. In the day of Durga Puja Sashti devotee believed that on Sashti, Ma Durga descends on earth with her child Ganesh, Karthik, Lakshmi and Saraswati. The colourful idols of Goddess Durga installed for the festival unveiled. Durga Puja celebrated for four to five days and the Durga End with immersion of idol of Goddess Durga Puja in water in the tenth day, which is known as Vijaya Dashami.

Time of Durga Puja Sashti 2024

Sashti in the sixth day of the Durga Puja and marks the beginning of the celebration of the festival. It usually falls in the sixth day of the lunar calendar in the month of Ashwin which is in September or October month according to Georgian calendar. This day marks the beginning of Durga Puja.

In the year 2024, Durga Puja Sashti will celebrated on October 9, 2024. Sasthi Tithi start: October 8, 2024 โ€“ 07:08 am Sasthi Tithi End: October 9, 2024 โ€“ 07:32 am “Kalparambho” Shasthi Puja Within 07:32 am Durga Devi “BODHON”,”Amantran” and “Adhibas” In the evening.

The main Ritual on Sashti included:

Kalparambho: Kalparambho is the first ritual performed early in the morning on Sashti. It marks the commencement of Durga Puja and involves purifying the space where the goddess will worshipped.

Bondhon: Bandhan, the ritual of awakening the Goddess. The priest, through special mantras and offerings, invites the divine presence of Maa Durga into the idol, making it ready for worship. This ritual usually perform in the evening time.

Adhivas: Adhivas is the sanctification of the place where the Durga Puja will conducted. The priest performs this ritual to purify the space and ensure it is suitable for the goddess to reside during the festival.

Amantran: Amantran means inviting the goddess. In this ritual, Maa Durga is formally invite to come and stay with her devotees during the festival.

Unveiling of the Face (Mukha Darshan): In many traditions, Maa Durgaโ€™s face remains covered until Sashti. On this day, the veil is remove in a ritual called Mukha Darshan or Anchal Chhera. This is a highly anticipate moment for devotees as they get their first glimpse of the beautifully craft idol.

Aarti: In the day of Sashti aarti perform, where lamps are lit and waved in front of Maa Durgaโ€™s idol while devotional hymns are sung.

Bhog: On Sashti, offerings of fruits, sweets, and various other made foods to the goddess. Later, This food distributed as Prasad (blessed food) to the devotees.

The Pandlas of Durga Puja beautifully decorated on this day and people visit them to seek blessing of Goddess Durga. People wear new dresses and enjoy the cultural festival, which includes music, Dhunuchi Nach, dance etc. The festival continuous till Vijaya Dashami.
