On July 3, 2024 a dyke of Barak River has breached or broken in the area of Tukugram in Salchapra, Cachar. The water of the Barak River is now entering the area continuously which causing flood situation. The Barak river water level in above the danger level.
This sudden dyke breached now threating to flood in the area of Salchapra, Srikona and nearby areas of Cachar district within hours.
The entire area of Tukugram is now under water, potentially affecting thousand of residents. Many houses have been flooded due to major dyke breach. People of the affected areas have left their homes and moved to the safer place.
The affected riverside communities are blaming the Water Resources Department for negligence of work. They alleging that proper maintenance and timely repairs could have prevented this disaster.
