Sahara Refund: Union Government Introduces Online Platform for Depositors

The Union Government, led by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, has inaugurated the CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal. This portal aims to facilitate the return of funds to millions of depositors associated with the Sahara Group. The launch event took place in Delhi, marking a significant step in enabling depositors to reclaim their money.

Refund Process Initiated with Sahara Refund Portal Launch:

Union Minister Amit Shah announced that the launch of the Sahara Refund Portal marks the initiation of the process to return funds to depositors who had their money held in four cooperative societies under the Sahara Group. The Ministry of Cooperation had filed an application with the Supreme Court of India to address the concerns of genuine members/depositors. In response, the Supreme Court ordered the transfer of Rs. 5000 Crores from the ‘Sahara-SEBI Refund Account’ to the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies (CRCS) for disbursement to legitimate depositors.

Features of CRCS- Refund Portal:

The Union Government has developed the CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal to enable depositors linked to Sahara Group’s cooperative societies, including Sahara Credit Cooperative Society Ltd., Saharayan Universal Multipurpose Society Ltd., Humara India Credit Cooperative Society Ltd., and Stars Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd., to submit legitimate claims easily.

Online Availability and Refund Details:

While the Sahara Refund Portal has launched, the link to the CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal can be accessed through the Ministry of Cooperation’s official website. Initially, the refund portal will disburse up to Rs. 5000 crore, with each depositor eligible to claim up to Rs. 10,000 in the first phase.

The investors can apply through this website https://cooperation.gov.in/ OR those who are unable to apply through online, they can visit their nearest CSC (Common Service Center).

Application Process and Refund Timeline:

To apply on the Sahara Refund Portal, depositors need to ensure that their Aadhaar is linked to their mobile number and bank account. They must provide receipt details and download, fill, and re-upload a form on the portal for further processing. Amit Shah assured depositors that the refund process will be complete within 45 days, with funds directly deposited into their bank accounts.

Amit Shah stated that the initial refund amount would be Rs. 10,000 per depositor, with the potential for higher amounts in subsequent phases.
