Nine Police Officer from Hatigaon police station, Guwahati, injured while trying to catch a gang of international car smugglers near the Khabqah locality, Guwahati city on Friday night.
According to information, the gang of five car smugglers had came from Meghalaya to Guwahati to pick up stolen cars which they planned to sell in Bangladesh. Acting on a tip-off, police set up an operation near Khanqah, where the gang was trying to close a deal for the stolen cars.
A sudden clash broke out between the smugglers and the police. The officers were attacked with police batons, and the smugglers tried to escape after damaging a police vehicle and a private car.
Lastly the police arrested four smugglers, while another managed to flee from the scene. The arrested smugglers identified as Dhan Jyoti Doloi and Hirak Jyoti from Sonapur, Samiran Das from Goalpara, and Anawar from 13 Mile.
The injured police officer identified as Nabur Ali (52), Krishna Sarathi Gogoi (43), Akhter Ali (33), Rausan Ali (42), Sushi Kalita (58), Dipankor Das (25), Kuldip Mazumder (25), Dhurbajyoti Sarmah (35), and Nayak Rangkhal. All the injured police personnel admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for treatment around 1:25 am.
The Hatigaon Police Station continue interrogation.
