An Assam University student dead body was discovered today (May 17) in afternoon at the Aashiana PG in Panchayat road, Silchar. He had been residing here for last 6 month.
The hanging body was discovered by a fellow resident and immediately called the authorities. The deceased is identified as Zahid Abbas Tapadar, a second-semester BA-LLB student. He had been residing in various hostels and PG accommodations in Silchar since his higher-secondary education.
Zahid Abbas Tapadar had been staying at the PG in Panchayat Road with his younger brother while pursuing his studies. His body was found hanging in his room.
Assam University Student Zahid’s uncle Claims Murder
Upon hearing the news, Zahid’s uncle arrived in Silchar and made a shocking allegation, claiming that Zahid’s death was not a suicide, but a murder. He accused other residents of the PG of being involved in a conspiracy to kill his nephew.
“This is impossible. He wouldn’t take such a step. I won’t accept the body until the Magistrate arrives and starts an investigation. The police are asking me to send the body for a postmortem—why should I? He was murdered, and this is a conspiracy. We won’t take responsibility until the investigation uncovers the truth,” he declared.
The PG owner recounted the incident, stating, “We were all out for Jumma today and had gone for Namaz. Zahid’s brother went with us to the Masjid. When we returned, we heard about the incident. Now, we can’t say why he might have committed suicide. I had his guardian’s contact number and called his home, and they then reached the building.” Cachar Police were promptly on the scene and have since sent Zahid’s body to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. This tragic event has left the community in shock, and an investigation is underway to uncover the truth behind Zahid’s untimely death.
