An Assam Police officer of Golakganj Police station arrested for extorting money from beneficiaries by pretending to be part of the Orunodoi scheme. The Assam Police officer arrested and taken to Dhubri Sadar Police station.
As per reports, the police officer identified as Rakibul Islam Ahmed, took Rs. 1000 from each of the woman in the Jhagrarpar area of Dhubri. He introduced himself as a close friend of the BJP leader and harassed the victim women, saying he would send BJP activists to their homes, if they did not comply.
After taking the money, he disappeared, leading to accusations of fraud. On Wednesday, with the help of an All India Democratic Women’s Association worker a victim woman visited the Golakganj Police station to demand their money back, which was collected in the name of Orunodoi scheme.
In the police station the accused Ahmed mistreated and assaulted with the victim woman. When the women didn’t get their money back, they threatened to go to court and meet with the district superintendent of Police, Dhubri.
Later, the Golakganj Police official took Ahmed into custody and on Thursday night, he was sent to Dhubri Sadar Police station for further investigation and interrogation.
