The Assam government has introduced strict measures under Mission Bashundhara 3 to tackle illegal housing on tea garden lands.
This initiative aims to manage land use while protecting the rights of indigenous people who were settled on these lands before December 31, 2022.
The rules, has served from recommendations by Justice (Retd.) Biplab Sharma. It emphasize a strict stance against unauthorized construction within tea plantation areas.
Under these regulations, any new buildings erected on Assam tea garden land will be treated as a criminal act, underscoring the governmentโs dedication to preserving these agricultural lands.
To support long-term residents, the government is offering a one-time opportunity for those living on tea garden land before the cutoff date to purchase the land by paying a 10% premium.
However, these guidelines specifically exclude tea plantation workers who are building on their own land, ensuring local community rights remain protected.
