The Assam Cabinet has taken some major decisions. These steps aim to improve development and support employees. At the same time, the government wants balanced growth across the state.
First, the Assam Cabinet approved a big increase in MLALAD funds. This move will directly help local development. From 2026–27, each MLA will receive ₹1.5 crore every year. Then, from 2027–28, this amount will rise to ₹2 crore. As a result, more projects can start at the ground level. Roads, schools, and public services may improve faster.
Moreover, the focus is clear. The government wants equal growth in all Assembly areas. This step can reduce regional gaps.
Dibrugarh to Become Second Capital
In another key move, the Assam Cabinet approved Dibrugarh as the second capital. This decision is important for Upper Assam. It will bring better planning and faster development.
Along with this, the State Capital Region Area – Dibrugarh will be formed. Also, a new authority will manage the region. It is called the State Capital Region Development Authority – Dibrugarh.
This authority will guide growth in a planned way. The local MLA will lead it as Chairperson. Interestingly, the Chairperson will get Cabinet Minister status. So, decisions can happen quickly.
The region will cover a 20-kilometre radius around Dibrugarh. This will help expand infrastructure. At the same time, it will improve connectivity and urban planning.
To support this, the government will invest ₹500 crore over five years. This fund will boost roads, buildings, and other facilities. It will also support ongoing projects.
Relief for Employees and Promotion Push
The Assam Cabinet also focused on employees. First, there is good news for Grade IV workers. The government approved changes in service rules. This will make promotions smoother.
Now, eligible Grade IV staff can move to Grade III posts in a structured way. This step can improve morale. It also creates better career growth.
Next, there is relief for state employees and pensioners. The Assam Cabinet increased DA and DR from 58% to 60%. This means more money in hand.
Importantly, the new rate will apply from June 2026. However, the payment will come in July 2026. This will benefit thousands of families.
Overall, these decisions show a clear direction. The Assam Cabinet is focusing on growth, governance, and people. Development projects will expand. Employees will feel supported. And Dibrugarh will rise as a major center.
These steps may shape Assam’s future in the coming years.
