Zubeen Garg

In a new development in the Zubeen Garg death case, five key accused were produced virtually before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on October 27 and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.

The accused include North East India Festival chief organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, the late singer’s manager Siddhartha Sharma, his cousin and police officer Sandipan Garg, along with personal security officers Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya. They appeared via video conferencing as their judicial custody period expired on October 26.

The virtual court proceeding was arranged since October 28 marks Chhath Puja, a public holiday, making physical hearings impossible. All five had earlier been sent to judicial custody on October 15 and were lodged in Baksa jail under heavy security due to tensions in the region.

Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahanta are currently lodged in Haflong Jail in connection with the same case.

Meanwhile, the investigation continues, with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) questioning and interrogating several individuals as the probe advances steadily.
