USTM Student Dies by Suicide in Khanapara, Guwahati

Guwahati

A 22-year-old student was found dead by suicide at a paying guest accommodation in Khanapara, Guwahati, on Monday night.

The incident occurred at Green Meadows PG, located on the Farm Gate connecting road in Khanapara. The deceased has been identified as Mirjuma Parvin, a student pursuing a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology (BMLT) course at the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM).

According to police, Mirjuma was a resident of Bongaigaon. She was found hanging inside her room late at night. A team from Dispur Police Station reached the spot soon after receiving the information and has begun an investigation into the incident.

Preliminary reports indicate that academic pressure may have been a contributing factor, as Mirjuma had reportedly failed in three subjects. However, her family members have told the police that they do not suspect any foul play.

The body has been sent to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for a post-mortem examination. Following the autopsy, it will be taken to Bongaigaon for the final rites.
