Two Australian women cricketer “touched inappropriately” by a motorcyclist in Indore ahead of their final ICC Women’s World Cup league match against South Africa. The incident happened while the players were walking to a cafe Thursday morning, following Australia’s victory over England. At the time the player sent SOS notification as soon as the incident occurred. Cricket Australia confirmed the event and said the team security immediately reported the matter to police station on Thursday evening. Following the complaint, police arrest the accused, Aqeel, who has a prior criminal record.​

Acting on the complaint, Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra met the two Australian women cricketer, recorded their statements, and filed an FIR at the MIG Police Station. The case registered under Section 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and Section 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Indore Police, after a strategic operation, arrested the culprit within six hours. Security protocols and their possible breach reviewed with stakeholders including BCCI and MPCA. The Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association expressed shock and extended empathy toward the affected players, commending their courage in competing for Australia despite the trauma.​ Cricketers of Australian women cricket team were staying at the Radisson Blu Hotel along with the rest of their squad. Australia currently leads the World Cup points table. A win against South Africa secures their top spot, setting up a semi-final against India in Navi Mumbai. If they lose, they’ll finish second and face England, with South Africa topping the table to play India in the second semi-final.
