The Sribhumi case has left Assam in shock. The incident took place on Wednesday in a quiet locality near a forest area. According to police, a 22-year-old man allegedly lured the child away from her home. Soon after, he carried out the brutal crime.
The girl had been missing since around 10 am. When she did not return, her family began searching nearby areas. Sadly, within a short time, they found her body in a forest hillock close to their residence. The discovery created panic and grief among residents.
Police reached the spot and started an investigation. Officials confirmed that it is a serious crime. The body has been sent for postmortem. Evidence collection is currently underway.
Public Anger Over Police Delay
Meanwhile, locals reacted strongly. They managed to catch the accused and handed him over to police. However, anger grew over the response time. Residents claimed that they informed the nearby patrol post early, but no immediate action was taken.
The Madanmohan Patrol Post is just 300 metres from the location. Still, according to locals, police arrived late. As a result, people blocked the Chargola–Hailakandi road. They demanded strict punishment for the accused. At the same time, they asked for accountability from officials.
Later, senior officers intervened. A large police team reached the area and controlled the situation. Authorities also took action against the patrol post in charge. He has been removed from duty pending further inquiry.
At present, the accused remains in custody. Police have started detailed questioning. They stated that every step will be taken to ensure justice.
This Sribhumi case has raised serious concerns. People are now demanding faster police response and stronger safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
