The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has issued a statement addressing online speculation and misinformation regarding the death of renowned cultural icon Mr. Zubeen Garg.
According to the Singapore Police Force, the case is currently under investigation in line with Singapore’s Coroners Act 2010. “Based on preliminary investigations, the SPF does not suspect foul play,” statement stated.
In the statement SPF clarified that to complete the investigation, “which may take up to another three months or so, the findings will be submitted to the State Coroner in Singapore, who will then determine whether to hold a Coroner’s Inquiry (“CI”).”
CI a judicial fact-finding process aimed at establishing the cause and circumstances of death. The results of any such inquiry will be made public.
Despite the ongoing investigation, on 1 October 2025, the SPF provided a copy of Mr. Garg’s autopsy report and preliminary findings to the High Commission of India upon their request.
The SPF emphasized its commitment to a thorough and professional investigation and urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information. “We seek the patience and understanding of the parties involved,” the statement read.
Zubeen Garg, 52, a renowned musician from Assam, passed away on September 19 after drowning while swimming near St. John’s Island in Singapore. He was in the city-state serving as a cultural brand ambassador for the North East India Festival, which was scheduled for September 20–21.
