A youth from Saratpally, Sonai Road, Silchar has detained for allegedly threatening a Radha Madhab College Student with an acid Attack on August 12. The arrested has followed by a complaint lodge by the female student, while the accused mother claimed her son was innocent and falsely accused.
According to reports, the youth identified as Shubham Das, who was relationship with the student, from Saratpally. After their breakup, he allegedly began issuing threats. In a recent phone altercation, youth reportedly threatened to burn her face with acid. The girl allegedly challenged him to come to the college if he was “brave enough.”
On Tuesday afternoon, the youth appeared near the college gate where a large number of students had gathered. Witnesses say that upon seeing the crowd, he entered the campus and went straight to the principal’s office. The college administration alerted Rangirkhari Outpost police, who arrived and took him into custody.
Speaking to reporters, a college student said, “Both the victim and the accused hail from the Saratpally area of Silchar. We learned that Shubham had repeatedly proposed to her, but she rejected him each time. Following this, he began issuing threats, even claiming he would harm her parents. Around a month ago, he allegedly threatened to throw acid on her and a friend. Today, he attempted to carry out that threat, but students stepped in and stopped him. When the attack failed, he threw the acid into a drain and ran toward the principal office, where he caught shortly after.”
The accused youth’s, who is not a student of Radha Madhab College, is reportedly associated with an NGO. Locals alleged that a woman claiming to represent the NGO arrived at the college to defend him, and in the process, assaulted female students and tore their clothes.
Das’s mother presented a different version, alleging that the girl had called her son to the college and brought goons to attack him. She claimed her son entered the principal’s office to escape and denied all allegations of threats or acid attack plans, calling them fabricated.
