A Woman has allegedly jumped from Silchar, old Sadarghat bridge into Barak River on Tuesday morning. The reason behind this step is not known.
The decease identified as 40-year-old Swagata Paul, wife of Subir Ch Paul, a resident of Janiganj in Silchar, Cachar district.
According to police the incident took place at around 11:45. When the police got informed about the incident, police personnel from Silchar police Station, along with local residents rushed to the spot.
The woman was rescued and immediately taken to SilcharMedical College and Hospital (SMCH). However, doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
Police have registered the case under SilcharPS GDE No. 17 dated 12/08/2025. The cause behind the suspected suicide remains unclear, and an investigation is currently underway.
