Several Assam-bound Trains has disrupted today (Decembre 11) due to a rail blockade at Jorai Railway Station, located Alipurduar Division, West Bengal. The rail blockade organized by the Greater Cooch Beehar People’s Association (GCPA).

At around 6:45 am the protest began at the Jorai Railway station, where more than 5000 agitators gathered at the station and blocked all the lines of train.

This blockade has impacted severely rail connectivity between Northeastern state and the rest of India.

The protestors declares their intention to continue the rail blockade indefinitely until their demand for the creation of Greater Coochbehar is met.

Because of blockade, two trains cancelled and several diverted. Trains affected by the blockade have rerouted through the alternate route of Fakiragram – Golakganj – New Coochbehar. To help passengers impacted by the changes, NFR has arranged buses and Tata Sumo vehicles.

To maintain the order Northeast Frontier Railway Authority in coordination with state authorities have deployed 500 personnel of RPF, GRP and local police at the station. The railway authorities apologize for the inconvenience caused by the protest.
