Serious allegations of illegal money collection have surfaced in several government schools in Nagaon district, triggering swift administrative action after a surprise inspection by District Commissioner (DC) Debashish Sharma on Monday, November 3.
The issue came to light when DC Sharma paid an unannounced visit to Dawson Multipurpose School in Nagaon town and discovered that students were being forced to pay money under the pretext of the “Nijut Moina” scheme — a government initiative designed to support, not exploit, students.
According to multiple student complaints, Senior Assistant Pawan Kumar Borah allegedly demanded payments and withheld scheme benefits from those who refused. Students also claimed they were charged for ID cards, registrations, and documentation, violating official directives.
During the inspection, DC Sharma interacted with students and Principal Tapan Baidya to verify the charges. Following confirmation, he immediately suspended Pawan Kumar Borah pending inquiry and directed the school inspectors to take necessary action.
The Principal was instructed to submit a detailed report explaining the irregularities, while departmental proceedings were initiated against both the Principal and the Senior Assistant.
The Nagaon district administration has reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency in schools and warned of strict action against any form of exploitation in educational institutions.
