Assam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Assam on December 20–21, bringing significant development updates for the state. A key highlight of his visit will be the grand inauguration of the new Integrated Terminal Building of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) in Guwahati.

The state-of-the-art terminal, built at a cost of around ₹1,600 crore, is part of a larger investment exceeding ₹2,000 crore. PM Modi is also expected to launch several major infrastructure and industrial projects during his two-day tour.

New Terminal to Boost Assam’s Aviation Capacity

The newly constructed terminal aims to make travel faster, smoother, and more comfortable. It will increase the airport’s handling capacity from 3.4 million to 13.1 million passengers annually, with the ability to manage almost 4,500 passengers during peak hours.

Designed to reflect the essence of Assam, the terminal features bamboo-inspired structures, orchid-themed patterns, Sky Forest zones, and traditional gamosa-based interiors. It will also include advanced security systems and Digi Yatra e-gates for modern and seamless travel.

Statue of Dr. Gopinath Bordoloi to Be Unveiled

During the inauguration, the Prime Minister will also unveil a statue of Bharat Ratna Dr. Gopinath Bordoloi, Assam’s first Chief Minister and an important figure in shaping India’s early political landscape.

Foundation Stone for Major Fertiliser Plant in Namrup

Following his visit to Guwahati, PM Modi will travel to Namrup, where he will lay the foundation stone for a new Brownfield Ammonia-Urea Plant.
The plant is expected to have a production capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes per year, significantly boosting Assam’s industrial growth and improving fertiliser availability for farmers.

Modi will also address large public gatherings in both Guwahati and Namrup during his visit.

Preparations Reviewed Ahead of PM’s Arrival

Ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a high-level meeting in Guwahati to review security arrangements, crowd management, and event coordination. Officials from the police, administration, and the Assam Valley Fertiliser & Chemical Company attended the briefing.

The Chief Minister instructed all departments to ensure smooth execution of all events, highlighting the importance of the visit for Assam’s development.

A Boost for Assam’s Future

PM Modi’s visit is expected to inject fresh momentum into Assam’s long-term development roadmap and further strengthen the state’s infrastructure for the future.
