Orunodoi Scheme: Big Update as Special Category Enrolment Begins From October 1

The Assam government has announced a change in the schedule for identifying eligible beneficiaries under special categories of the Orunodoi Scheme. According to a notice issued by the Finance Department, the process will now begin from October 1, 2026.

The notice was issued on September 16, 2026, and addressed to the Deputy Commissioners of all districts in Assam. It concerns the enrolment of eligible beneficiaries through the DIDS portal.

The department said the exercise is being carried out as part of the “Seva Sankalp Abhiyan” linked to the Orunodoi scheme. The campaign was earlier scheduled to start from September 17, 2026. However, the government has now postponed the programme.

As per the latest notice, the campaign will commence from October 1 instead.

Who Can Be Identified Under the Special Categories?

The Finance Department has mentioned two categories for identification during the enrolment exercise.

The first category includes Divyangjan beneficiaries.

The second category covers women belonging to households where a family member is suffering from specified diseases or health conditions. Their eligibility will be considered according to the applicable provisions of the Orunodoi scheme.

Therefore, eligible people in these categories are expected to be identified through the prescribed process. The exercise will cover districts across Assam.

The government has also clarified that the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the enrolment process will be issued separately. A detailed timeline for enrolling eligible beneficiaries on the DIDS portal will also follow.

This means applicants and local officials may have to wait for further instructions before completing the enrolment process. The upcoming SOP is expected to provide more details about the procedure and required steps.

The latest communication has been issued with the approval of the competent authority. It has also been forwarded to the Commissioner and Secretary of the Assam Finance Department for information.

The development is important for people who may fall under the newly identified special categories. They should keep an eye on official announcements for the next steps.

The Orunodoi Scheme continues to remain one of Assam’s major welfare programmes, and the new enrolment exercise is expected to bring eligible beneficiaries from these categories into the scheme’s coverage.
