In a tragic incident, a senior BJP leader and a lawyer Pitabas Panda died after being shot near his residence in the Brahmanagar area of Berhampur, Odisha on Monday night.
According to initial reports, the BJP leader and a lawyer Pitabas Panda, attacked by two unidentified miscreants on a motorcycle fired at Panda around 10 PM. The attackers opened fired twice.
He then immediately rushed to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where he died to his injuries during treatment.
The incident has triggered tension in the area. Police launched investigation, where senior police officials to rush to the scene. Authorities currently examine the area and also CCTV footage to identify the miscreants who killed the leader. Police have assured a comprehensive investigation to uncover the motive behind the attack and bring the culprits to justice.
Odisha BJP President Manmohan Samal visited the hospital to pay his respects, while other senior leaders — including Fisheries Minister Gokulananda Mallik, BJP Organisation Secretary Manas Mohanty, and Berhampur MP Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi — extended their condolences to Panda’s grieving family.
In a statement, Manmohan Samal said, “There is no place for lawlessness under the BJP government. Those behind the killing of Pitabas Panda will face strict legal action.”
