Today, July 8,early in the morning some unidentified miscreants attacked in Jiribam district of Manipur ahead of the Rahul Gandhi visit. The attack targeted the Meitei area of Gularthal.
According to reports, some miscreants started gunfire in the area of Gularthal, which led to an exchange of fire with security forces. During the fire incident, several Security Forces (SF) of Manipur were injured.
Two miscreants arrested in connection of attack.
Additionally, a state police bulletproof vehicle, was hit by gunfire during the attack.
Rahul Gandhi has arrived in Silchar town of Cachar district, Assam, ahead of his schedule to visit Manipur. In Cachar, he met with the flood-affected people of Fulertal. This is his first visit to the Northeast after becoming the leader of the Opposition Party in Lok Sabha.
At present, he is in Jiribam, where he meets with the victims of violence in the Jiribam Higher Secondary School relief camp.
From there he will return to Silchar Airport and they he will fly to Imphal for next part of his Manipur visit. In Imphal he will travel to Churachanpur district to visit the relief camp at Mandap in Tuibong. Later, he will go to Moirang in another relief camp at Phubala High School. He will also meet Manipur Governor Anusiya at Raj Bhawan in Imphal.
