Assam Police has arrested an individual in connection with the allege raped and murder case of an eight years old girl at a small tea garden in Dibrugarh district of Assam.
According to reports, the incident took place on August 9, 2025 in Kachari Pathar under Namrup police station, when she went out to collect firewood, police said.
An Officer stated, “The accused was fishing nearby when he saw the girl alone. He allegedly raped and killed her, most likely by smothering.”
The accused allegedly hid the girl’s body in a drain, covering it with hay and grass.
When the girl did not return home, her parents and neighbours began searching for her and informed the police. The body was discovered around 8:40 pm.
Locals caught the accused as he tried to escape and handed him over to the police.
According to police, the man had previously killed his mother and spent 14 years in prison before being released three years ago.
“He is now in our custody. A case has been registered under the POCSO Act and other relevant sections of the BNS,” said Namrup DSP Prasenjit Das.
