Fresh Manipur violence has once again disturbed the fragile calm in the state. This time, unrest began in Bishnupur district. The situation changed within hours. What started as a quiet night soon turned into panic and fear.
Around 1 AM, a powerful explosion hit a house in Moirang Tronglaobi. The blast killed two children on the spot. One was a five-year-old boy. The other was a six-month-old infant. Their mother suffered serious injuries, and doctors rushed her for treatment.
Soon after, fear spread across the locality. Residents stepped out of their homes. Neighbours gathered quickly. Anger started rising. The shocking nature of the attack left everyone shaken.
Protests Intensify After Attack
However, the situation did not stay limited to the blast site. Protests broke out soon after. A large number of people took to the streets. Emotions ran high across the area.
As tension increased, a group of protesters moved towards a nearby CRPF camp. The situation grew more serious. Security personnel tried to control the crowd. They appealed for calm. Still, the crowd refused to back down.
Security forces then opened fire to disperse the mob. As a result, two more people lost their lives due to bullet injuries. This raised the total death toll to four. The situation became more tense after this development.
Violence Spreads, Vehicles Set on Fire
Meanwhile, violence spread to nearby areas. Protesters set fire to vehicles, including oil tankers and a truck. They also damaged a makeshift police outpost. These incidents showed how fast the unrest was spreading.
In response, the state government acted quickly. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh strongly condemned the attack. He called it a barbaric and inhuman act. He also announced an NIA probe into the case.
Security Tightened Across the Region
At the same time, authorities increased security across sensitive zones. Joint teams of police, CRPF, and Assam Rifles launched search operations. They also used helicopters for aerial monitoring. These steps aimed to track suspects and prevent further violence.
Officials imposed strict restrictions in affected areas. They limited the movement of people. Moreover, they suspended mobile internet services in several districts to stop rumours from spreading.
In another tragic development, a minor girl staying in a relief camp lost her life. This incident added to the grief of displaced families who already face hardship. The government has announced compensation and support for affected families.
Overall, the latest Manipur violence shows that peace in the region remains fragile. Security forces continue efforts to restore normalcy. Meanwhile, officials urge people to stay calm and cooperate with ongoing operations.
