Man Held With Live Bullets at CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Swearing-In Venue in Guwahati

A sudden bullet scare created tension at the swearing-in ceremony of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati on Tuesday. The incident took place at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, just minutes before the oath-taking began.

According to police sources, a man was stopped during routine security checks at the entry gate. Soon after, officials found a few rounds of live bullets in his possession. As a result, security personnel immediately detained him at the spot.

However, no firearm was recovered from the individual. He was later taken to Basistha Police Station for questioning. Police officials said the situation was quickly brought under control. Meanwhile, an investigation is now underway to understand the reason behind carrying the ammunition.

Tight Security Amid High-Profile Presence

The bullet scare gained attention as the event was attended by top national leaders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, Nitin Gadkari, and Sarbananda Sonowal were present at the venue. In addition, more than 40 Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states attended the ceremony.

Despite the incident, the swearing-in proceeded as planned. Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to 57-year-old Himanta Biswa Sarma for his second consecutive term as Chief Minister.

Along with him, four other leaders also took oath as ministers. These included BJP leaders Rameswar Teli and Ajanta Neog, AGP’s Atul Bora, and BPF’s Charan Boro.

Investigation Continues

Police officials confirmed that they are examining all angles. They want to find out whether the act was intentional or a case of negligence. So far, no direct threat has been established.

The swearing-in ceremony marked the return of the NDA government in Assam for a third consecutive term. The alliance secured a strong mandate, winning 102 out of 126 seats in the Assembly.

For now, security agencies remain alert. At the same time, authorities have assured that strict measures are in place to prevent any untoward incident.
