Liquor Seizure in Silchar: 6 Trucks Caught in Late-Night Election Crackdown

A major liquor seizure in Silchar has raised fresh concerns ahead of the upcoming elections. In a late-night operation, officials intercepted six trucks loaded with liquor during routine checking in the town. The action reflects tighter monitoring as poll dates approach.

Tight Checks Ahead of Polls

The operation was carried out by the Static Surveillance Team along with the Excise Department. Officials confirmed that checking has increased across the district. They aim to prevent any illegal movement of goods that could influence the election process.

According to sources, the trucks were stopped during a routine inspection drive. Soon after, officers discovered large quantities of liquor inside the vehicles. This led to immediate seizure and further questioning of the drivers.

However, the drivers have denied any wrongdoing. They claimed that the consignment was legal. They also stated that the goods were being transported from Guwahati to Agartala. Despite these claims, authorities are not taking any chances.

At present, officials are carefully examining the documents linked to the seized trucks. They want to confirm whether the transportation followed all legal norms. Until verification is complete, the seized consignment will remain under official custody.

Meanwhile, the administration has made it clear that such drives will continue. In fact, more checkpoints are being set up across sensitive areas. This move comes as part of a broader strategy to ensure fair elections.

The recent liquor seizure highlights the strict vigilance in place. It also sends a strong message to those attempting to bypass rules. As the investigation continues, more clarity is expected in the coming days.
