IPL Auction 2024: In the IPL 2024 auction held on Tuesday, a total of 72 players were awarded contracts, with the 10 participating teams collectively spending INR 230.45 crore. The bidding saw some remarkable turnarounds for players like Shubham Dubey and Sameer Rizvi, who were picked up by RR and CSK for ₹5.8 crore and ₹8.4 crore, respectively. Mitchell Starc emerged as the costliest player in IPL history, as KKR spent a whopping ₹24.75 crore to secure his services, surpassing the record set by his captain Pat Cummins, who was acquired by SRH for ₹20.5 crore.

Other notable deals included Umesh Yadav and Shivam Mavi going for ₹5.8 crore and ₹6.4 crore to GT and LSG, respectively. Daryl Mitchell was bought by CSK for ₹14 crore, while PBKS broke the bank for Harshal Patel, securing him for ₹11.75 crore. The auction also witnessed a fierce bidding war for West Indies T20 captain Rovman Powell, who was eventually sold to RR for ₹7.40 crore.

In the overseas player category, there were no takers for Rilee Rossouw, Josh Inglis, Kusal Mendis, Adil Rashid, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and others. Uncapped Australian left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson grabbed attention after being acquired by Gujarat Titans for ₹10 crore.

The accelerated auction featured several unsold international cricketers, including Rassie van der Dussen, Jimmy Neesham, Michael Bracewell, Matt Henry, and Kyle Jamieson. However, GT managed to secure uncapped wicketkeeper Robin Minz for INR 3.6 crore.
