India Covid-19 Update: Covid-19 Active cases surge to 5755, and Kerala hit the most with 1806 active cases according to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare 11:00 AM IST, June 7, 2025 (today). 4 deaths reported in 2 hours.
The recent COVID-19 surge in India is attributed to the emergence of new variants NB.1.8.1 and LF.7, even as JN.1 continues to be the dominant strain. Health authorities are closely monitoring these evolving variants amid rising concerns nationwide.
Despite a noticeable rise in COVID-19 cases, officials maintain that the majority of infections are mild and being treated at home. In response to the uptick, the Centre has instructed all states to ensure adequate availability of oxygen supplies, isolation beds, ventilators and essential medicines to handle any potential surge effectively.

Recent COVID-19 Death Reported Across States:
- Madhya Pradesh: A 45-year-old pregnant woman (9 months, full term) died following intrapartum seizures during a lower segment cesarean section (LSCS). She intubated after her condition deteriorated. Subsequent testing confirmed COVID-19 positive status.
- Maharashtra: A 63-year-old male patient with multiple comorbidities, including hypertension (HTN), cerebrovascular accident (CVA), diabetes mellitus (DM), and hypothyroidism, succumbed to COVID-19.
- Kerala: A 59-year-old male, undergoing treatment for advanced Stage 4 mucinous adenocarcinoma of the lungs at the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), passed away after contracting COVID-19.
- Tamil Nadu: A 79-year-old bedridden male, suffering from diabetes and hemodynamic instability, died due to COVID pneumonia and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS).
