IMD Issue Red Alert: Extremely Heavy Rainfall Likely in Assam – ASDMA Urges Caution

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert predicting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across various districts Assam over the next 2 to 3 days.

The warning comes as a result of a well-marked low-pressure system over the Northwest Bay of Bengal, off the coast of Odisha. Which is expected to intensify into a depression and move northwards.

According to the IMD, this system may bring torrential downpours, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across a wide area of the state. Districts likely to be affected include:

Urban Alert for Guwahati:

Guwahati city is also expected to experience continued rainfall. Which may lead to waterlogging, slowed traffic, tree falls and localized landslides, especially in vulnerable and hillside areas. City authorities are on high alert with emergency response systems in place.

IMD Issue Red Alert for Several District for 30 May

On 29 May, IMD also provide Red Alert to several district of Assam for May 30.

The name of the district are Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Baksa, Bongaigaon, Bajali, West Karbi Anglong, Chirang, Barpeta, Dima Hasao, Cachar, Hailakandi, Karimganj.
