Heavy rainfall in Meghalaya, Assam and other states for next 5 days: IMD Alert

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a alert for extremely heavy rainfall over Meghalaya during 15th-19th June and in Assam during 17th-19th June, 2024.

According to Bulletin the IMD said that “a cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam & neighbourhood and an east-west trough runs from central parts of Uttar Pradesh to east Meghalaya in lower tropospheric levels. Strong southwesterly/southerly winds are prevailing from Bay of Bengal to northeastern States in lower tropospheric levels.”

Under this condition heavy rainfall alert by IMD:

The temperature of this area are expected to rise to 44-45 degree Celsius.

Residents of the affected areas are advised to take necessary steps due to the expected heavy rainfall and potential flooding in the northeastern states. On the other hand, people in the heatwave-prone regions should stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun to mitigate heat-related illnesses.
