Ambubachi Mela 2025 is going to start from June 22 to 26, in this period Kamakhya Temple Door will remain closed. Assam’s Guwahati started it gran preparation of the Maha Ambubachi Mela.
Kamakhya Temple is situated in Guwahati’s, Nilachal Hills and it is among the 51 sacred Shakti Peeths, and one of the four Adi Shakti Peeths. It is believed that her yoni (womb) fell here after Sati’s body was cut into pieces by Vishnu’s Sudarshan Chakra. It is believed during the Mela the Goddess Kamakhya undergoes her annual menstrual cycle, symbolizing the power of fertility and the worship of the yoni (womb).
Extensive Preparations Underway at Kamakhya Temple during Maha Ambubachi Mela 2025
The state government and temple authorities are jointly managing a comprehensive preparation phase to ensure smooth conduct of the event. Key highlights include:
- Support from 24 major departments of the state government
- Establishment of around 20,000 capacity pilgrim camps
- Separate camps for police personnel
- All pilgrim camps will be ready for use by June 20
- Dedicated medical camps with doctors and medicines on standby
- Sufficient deployment of IWT vessels to be made

Important Guidelines for Visitors during Ambubachi Mela in Guwahati
- VIP/VVIP visits to the temple will be temporarily suspended. During the festival period to ensure seamless access for the general public.
- Devotee entry will be prohibited after 8:30 PM on June 23, 2025, as part of crowd management protocols.
- At the entry point below the Nilachal flyover, all visitors heading toward Kamakhya Temple will be required to remove shoes, sandals or footwear.
Reopening Schedule
The Kamakhya Temple will reopen for darshan on June 26, following the completion of all prescribed rituals and purification processes.
Chief minister post the grand preparation of Kamakhya Temple by stating, “The Ambubachi Mahayog in 2025 is scheduled from 22-26 June when the sacred Nilachal Hills will host lakhs of devotees who will descend upon Kamrupá to celebrate Maa Kamakhya’s divine femininity. Our Govt is working across different avenues to ensure a smooth conduct of the Mela.”
