A fire broke out in one of the coaches of the Amritsar–Saharsa Garib Rath Express train near Sirhind railway station in Punjab on Saturday morning, officials confirmed.
According to the Railway Board, the incident occurred around 7:30 AM when the train (number 12204) was en route from Amritsar. One person sustained minor injuries, while the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
A Government Railway Police (GRP) official said smoke was first noticed in one of the AC coaches, prompting a passenger to pull the alarm chain to halt the train. All passengers were safely evacuated from the affected coach.
The fire quickly spread to coach G-19, slightly impacting two adjoining coaches. Railway staff immediately detached the three affected coaches from the rest of the train, and fire tenders were called in to douse the flames.
Station House Officer (GRP Sirhind) Rattan Lal reported that a 32-year-old woman suffered minor burn injuries and was taken to the Civil Hospital in Fatehgarh Sahib for treatment.
Officials added that passengers from the affected coaches were shifted to other compartments, and the train will resume its journey toward its destination shortly.
