Father of Shani Mandir, Silchar theft Accused Allegedly Commit Suicide

A dead body recovered hanging from a tree near Chaltabasti, near Assam University, Silchar on August 21 morning. The dead body identified as Ajit Das father of recently theft National High Way point, Silchar Shani Mandir’s one accused Anik Das.

Locals believe that the extreme step of suicide was taken due to the shame and humiliation caused by his son’s repeated involvement in thefts and robberies.

The dead body was first discovered by an Assam University, Silchar student, who immediately alerted the Assam University Police Outpost.

According to residents, Anik Das, who previously lived near Shilcoorie Camp before shifting to Chaltabasti, had a notorious history of theft. On August 17, he was arrested for stealing jewellery and valuables from the National Highway Point Shani Mandir in Silchar. Police confirmed that he had only recently been released from jail before committing the latest offence on August 16.

The body of Ajit Das was later sent to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for post-mortem examination on Thursday afternoon.
