Just a day before Independence Day, Security Force has seized a huge amount of explosives and arms from Phinbiru village along the Assam –Arunachal Pradesh border.
Phinbiru, a village located about 7 km from Tipong in Margherita, Tinsukia district.
The operation was carried out by Assam Rifles. The seized is believed to be a major stockpile linked to the ULFA (Independent) and NSCN factions involved in bomb-making.
The seized items include:
- 18 radio sets and 4 chargers
- 6 electric wires for bomb-making
- 1 handmade pistol
- 59 detonators, 6 primers, and 2 bomb fuses
- 60 live ammunition rounds
Officials suspect the cache was meant for attacks during Independence Day celebrations. All recovered items have been handed over to Assam Police for further investigation.
Security forces have intensified patrols along the Assam–Arunachal border to prevent any untoward incidents.
