Ex-BSF Jawan from Assam Found Dead in Arunachal Pradesh

A former Border Security Force (BSF) jawan of Assam named Siddhartha Chetia was found dead in Arunachal Pradesh. This has triggered widespread outrage across the region. Siddhartha had served the BSF for eight years along the India-Bangladesh border before leaving due to health issues and later worked as a carpenter to support his family.

Siddhartha Chetia, a resident of Baruati Dapathar village located in Dhemaji district, Assam under the Silapathar police station area, close to the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. On, He travelled to Daporijo for work on October 26 and planned to return home in November. Before going missing, Siddhartha reportedly informed his family that his employer, identified as Raju Dubey, had threatened his life. A missing complaint was filed, following which the Dhemaji Police recovered his decomposed body near his workplace.

Family members and local organisations have accused the employer of involvement in the murder. Siddhartha was the sole earning member of his family. After his death, his wife and differently-abled daughter are left behind. In response to the incident, the Tai Ahom Students’ Union has demanded a thorough investigation and a quick justice. The group warned it will impose an indefinite economic blockade of Arunachal Pradesh if their demands are not met.
