The eight day of Sarodiya Durga Puja is Ashtami Puja, which start with the rhythmic beats of Dhak and chants of the prayer of devotee. This is the Third day of Durga puja. People on this day ready with new special cloths. On this day all people gathered to honour the ,most powerful form of Ma Durga as the destroyer of evil.

In this Day Ma Durga battle with the Mahishasura, reaches in peak. Ma Durga got triumphed over of Mahishasura, and became Mahishasur Mardini. So, Ashtami Day is represents the victory of good over evil, light over darkness, and hope over despair.

Ritual of Durga PujaAshtami

Kumari Puja: In the day of Ashtami Kumari Puja performed and it is the most important rituals of the day. On this day young girls (usually age between 6 to 12) are worshipped as embodiments of Goddess puja. The girls were dressed up as Goddess Durga and offered flower, fruits, new cloths and gift.

Pushpanjali: After the rituals of Kumari Puja Devotee offer Pushpanjali (offering flower) to Ma Durga, in worshipped. Priest chants mantras, recite hyms and offer flower to her charan.

Sandhi Puja: Sandhi puja is a ritual that takes place during the transition between Astami during last 24 minutes and the first of Navami Tithi. This marks the exact moment when Ma Durga transformed into Ma Chamunda and killed the Ashur Mahishasura.

Bhog and Prasad: On this day devotee offer fruits, Panchamrit, and special meal of like Khichuri, Labra, Beguni, payesh, Sabzi and many others. After the puja will over the bhog will distribute as Prasad.

Aarti: Aarti will perform in the evening of the day accompanied by the beating of dhak and blowing of conch shells.

Cultural Program: In the evening of the day, people gathered in the pandals for cultural program, which included dance, music as well as theater.

Durga Puja Ashtami is a day filled with spiritual energy, joy, and the celebration of the goddess’s victory over evil. It is both a deeply religious day and a time for communal festivity.
