A cloudburst has hit the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand which caused flashflood and landslide on Friday night. Several people feared missing. The cloudburst has caused massive distruction in the Tharali area of Chamoli district. NDRF and SDRF team has engaged to rescue operation as well as relief.
The incident disrupted normal life in Tharali town, nearby villages, and local markets. Several houses, shops, and roads were damaged as heavy rain and debris swept through the region.
The cloudburst wrought its worst effects in Tharali market, Kotdeep, and the tehsil campus. The debris found its way into the tehsil office, the SDM house, and various houses, leaving a trail of heavy damage. Numerous cars parked within the tehsil compound were trapped by the debris. The roads within the town were so obstructed by mud and rubble that they were akin to water-filled ponds. A little girl lost her life in Sagwara village under the debris.
The incident has created panic among the area where the cloudburst take place. People came out of their home to save themselves. Many shop were damaged in the area due to the debris in the market of Chepdon. One person reported missing in the area.
Several Road Closed due to Cloudburst in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand
The Tharali-Gwaldam road has closed near Mingaddera, due to heavy rains debris. Also Tharali-Sagwara road also obstructed. With both roads closed, movement in the area has come to a standstill, causing severe inconvenience to the people.
School Close in Uttarakhand Cloudburst area
As a measure of precaution, the district administration has directed all schools and Anganwadi centers in Tharali tehsil to remain shut on Saturday (23 August 2025). District Magistrate Dr. Sandeep Tiwari reported that police and administrative personnel are constantly deployed at the location, conducting relief and rescue efforts.
