A concerning incident has been reported from Lakhipur in Cachar district, where an assistant teacher at a primary school has been detained following allegations of molesting a Class 5 student. The accused, identified as Samim Ahmed Choudhury, is a teacher under the Lakhipur Education Block.
According to the complaint filed by the girl’s family, the child returned home visibly upset on Tuesday (November 18) and informed her parents about the teacher’s behaviour over the past few days. The School Management Committee (SMC) President stated that the student had earlier appeared distressed but initially hesitated to share details.
Reports indicate that on November 19, when only a few students were left on the school premises, the situation escalated. The teacher allegedly asked the student to play hide and seek. During the game, the victim was blindfolded and the teacher molested her again. The girl later narrated the incident to her mother, who immediately approached the SMC President for help. SMC members said that the accused teacher denied any wrongdoing, claiming that his actions were misinterpreted.
On Wednesday (November 19), SMC members and local residents visited the school to seek clarification from the teacher. He first denied the allegations but reportedly apologised later, according to an SMC member. As tensions grew, the teacher requested to be handed over to the authorities for safety.
Lakhipur Police were informed and arrived at the school to detain Choudhury for questioning. A formal written complaint was submitted by the child’s parents, following which a detailed investigation was initiated. Police officials confirmed that all statements and evidence are being reviewed.
The incident has raised questions about why several teachers had left the school early, leaving a small number of students unsupervised. Community members have expressed concern about student safety and supervision within educational institutions.
This case comes amid growing awareness regarding the need for stronger protection measures for students. Lakhipur Police have assured that further action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
