Cachar Targets Unregistered Hospitals and Labs: 15-Day Deadline to Register

The Cachar district administration has set a strict 15-day deadline for all unregistered private healthcare establishments — including hospitals, nursing homes, diagnostic centres, laboratories and doctors’ chambers — to register under the Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010. According the Act, every clinical establishing operating in Assam makes registration compulsory. If any of the establishment violets the act then they will face penalties from ranging from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 5 lakh.

Cachar Officials stated the step comes after repeated directives were ignored by several private units that continue to operate without valid registration. In response, the administration has warned of hefty penalties ranging from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 5 lakh for non-compliance.

The order received on October 8 from the office of the Joint Director of Health Services, Cachar.

The directive also further clarifies that all the practitioners under recognized system of medicine including Allopathic and Ayush discipline – Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy, Yoga, Naturopathy and Sowa Rigpa all bounded to same rule.

Dr. Shibananda Roy, Joint Director of Health Services, highlighted that the initiative aims to ensure minimum quality standards in healthcare services and safeguard patients’ rights. He clarified that the measure is reformative rather than punitive, intended to bring all private medical institutions under proper regulation.

Authorities have stated that after the 15-day period ends, strict enforcement actions will take against any unregistered facilities operating illegally in the district.
