Sumit Sattawan, the Commissioner of Kamrup Metro District Administration cum Chairman of the District Disaster Management, has issued an Alert and public advisory in response to the Brahmaputra River’s water level. The Water Level of Brahmaputra River rising above the danger level of 49.68 meter.
The advisory effective immediately and urges the residents who are living near the river front, river banks and nearby areas to stay alerted due to increase in water level of the river. This increase in water level can cause risk of breaches, embankment failures, and overflows.
To ensure the safety of life and property near Brahmaputra River, the following advisory are:-
- Restrictions on Activities: All activities which involved in country boats and fishing in and around the Brahmaputra River are banned beacuse of flood until further notice.
- Avoidance of Water body: Don’t drive or walk through flooded areas as it is very dangerous.
- Avoid Floodwaters: People must have to stay away from floodwaters. Which might be contaminated with sewage, chemicals, or other harmful materials.
- No Crossing of Flooded Areas: Do not try to swim or cross flooded rivers, streams, or any other flowing bodies of water.
- Safety of Vulnerable Groups: Make sure children and elderly people stay in safe places.
- Awareness of Hazards: Be careful and stay away of potential hazards like snakes and other animals that comes by floodwaters.
- Electrical Safety: Stay away from the submerged transformers, inverters, electrical posts or wires.
- Emergency Response: If you can, help people who fall into water bodies. Seek help from trained personnel like the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) or Village Defence Parties (VDPs) if you are not trained.
- Stay Informed: Keep updated through local news sources and emergency alerts.
- Compliance with Authorities: Follow instructions from local authorities and emergency responders right away.
- Evacuation Orders: Follow evacuation orders from authorities for your safety.
- Reporting Concerns: Stay alert and report any concerns to government authorities. The goverment Autorities including the DC Office, Circle Office, Local Police Station, or Water Resources Department for immediate help.
The administration also stayed that those who will violate the given advisory may result in legal action under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other applicable law.
