Basanti Durga Puja 2025: Durga Puja is the biggest festival of Bengali community. This Durga Puja is not only performe in autumn season it also performe during spring which known as বসন্ত কাল. That’s why the Durga Puja which is performed during Spring is known as Basanti Durga Puja. Did you know that Basanti Durga Puja is the first Durga which is worshiped before Saradiya Durga Puja.

This year Basanti Durga Puja will start from April 3, 2025 and will end on April 7, 2025.

Let’s check the time and date of the Durga Puja

Basanti Durga Puja Significance:

Basanti Puja is the first which has a fascinating history that dates back to ancient times. It is believed that King Surath was the first to perform this sacred puja. According to the legend in the Markandeya Purana, King Surath lost his kingdom and wandered through the forests, where he met Samadhi Vaishya, who had also lost his kingdom. In the jungle, they met Sage Medha who, upon their request, advised them to perform Basanti Durga Puja to regain their lost kingdoms.

Following the sage (muni) advice they perform Goddess Durga Puja in Spring season (Chitra month) and found there kingdoms back. From that time Durga Puja celebrated in spring season.

Ritual of Puja

Basanti Durga Puja perform the similar ritual of Saradiya Durga Puja, which falls on Autumn season.

Day 1 Maha Sasthi Puja: On this day Ghat Sthapana took place, with with mango leaves and coconut, signifying the goddess’s presence.

Day 2 Maha Saptami: Navapatrika puja performed (worship of nine plants representing Durga’s forms). Fruits, Flowers offers to Ma Durga and worshiped.

Day 3 Maha Ashtami: Kumari Puja (worship of young girls as the goddess’s embodiment) performs. Sandhi Puja performed at the transition of Ashtami and Navami includes lighting 108 lamps and a symbolic sacrifice.

Day 4: Maha Navami: The last day of Puja, where people will were the special outfit. Devotees prepare and distribute bhog (sacred food offering).

Day 5 Maha Dashami: On this Ma Durga Idol immerse in water of River, which symbolizing Ma Durga is returning to Kailash. Sindur Khela performed by married woman.
