Tripura

A major security operation in Tripura has resulted in the arrest of a Bangladeshi national for possessing a fake Indian passport. This sparking serious concerns over illegal cross-border movement and document forgery. The incident took place in Agartala.

The arrest carried out during a joint operation by immigration officials, the BSF, and West Agartala Police. The accused, identified as Pavel, intercepted at an Agartala checkpoint after officials detected irregularities in the passport he was carrying. Further verification confirmed that he is a resident of Bangladesh’s Brahmanbaria district.

West Agartala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Inspector Rana Chatterjee said that Pavel’s Bangladeshi nationality was established during interrogation. He added that police are now probing how the accused obtained the forged Indian passport and identifying those who helped facilitate it.

Following this development, security agencies stepped up vigilance across Tripura. In subsequent operations, police arrested another Bangladeshi national, Daud Sheikh, from Gopalganj district. Separately, the BSF detained a 20-year-old man identified as Munna Mia near the Indian side of the international border close to the Akhaura sector. He is also believed to be a resident of Brahmanbaria district.

All three accused produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of West Tripura. Pavel has remanded to police custody for further questioning, while legal proceedings have initiated against the other two.

A case registered under Section 3 of the Indian Passport Act, Sections 14A and 14B of the Foreigners Act, along with charges related to criminal conspiracy. Officials said several important leads have emerged during interrogation, and efforts are ongoing to dismantle the broader network involved in illegal entry and fake document rackets.

The arrests come at a time when security tightened across Tripura following repeated reports of illegal infiltration. Authorities have reiterated that strict measures will continue to protect the state’s borders and ensure national security.
