Renowned Assamese poet Anubhav Tulsi passed away on 1 July, 2025 at the age of 67 due to brain stroke. He died on Monday morning at around 10 am at GNRC Hospital, where he admitted on Monday night for treatment.
Poet Anubhav Tulsi was a towering figure in Assamese literature, celebrated not only for his poetry but also for his work as a storyteller, editor, and film critic. Since the late 20th century, his contributions have significantly influenced the evolution of modern Assamese literary culture.
From Gauhati University (1984) he done his postgraduate in English and served as professor at Swawal Kuchi Budharam Madhab Satradhikar College until his retirement. His first poetry collection is Najma, which marked the beginning of his poet journey with the publication of 20 poetry collections and over 30 books.
Poet’s writing earned the syllabi of Gauhati University, Cotton University and other institution. His poem have been featured by renowned publisher like Oxford University press, Penguin, Sahitya Akademi and National Book Trust.
His poem is also translated into several languages.
Tulsi represented Assam at major international literary festivals in cities like Istanbul, Austin, Athens and Dhaka. Over the years, he was honoured with numerous awards, including the Munin Barkotoki Award, a senior fellowship from the Ministry of Culture and multiple recognitions from the Assam Sahitya Sabha.
