In a major move, the new Traffic SOP issued by Assam Traffic Police is set to change how fines are imposed across the state. The update brings clarity. It also aims to reduce confusion among commuters.
For years, many drivers complained about unfair penalties. However, this new system focuses on transparency and accountability.
Key Changes in the New Traffic SOP
First of all, traffic police can no longer impose fines randomly. This step ensures fair enforcement. It also builds trust between the public and authorities.
Next, officials have been instructed to use Section 177 instead of Section 179(1). As a result, penalties will now be lower. In fact, the maximum fine has been capped at ₹1,000. This brings relief to many vehicle owners.
Moreover, the use of mobile phone cameras for issuing No Parking fines has been stopped. Earlier, this was a common complaint. Now, only photos captured through POS devices will be accepted as valid proof.
Another important change is instant notification. Vehicle owners must receive a message immediately after a fine is issued. This ensures there is no delay or confusion.
Additionally, the old practice of taking photos in the morning and issuing fines later in the day has been discontinued. This step prevents misuse of authority.
The new Traffic SOP is more than just a rule change. It is a step towards a more transparent system. It reduces harassment. At the same time, it promotes accountability.
For daily commuters, this means fewer disputes. For authorities, it ensures proper procedure is followed. Overall, the move is expected to improve traffic enforcement across Assam.
Clearly, this reform is a welcome change. It balances strictness with fairness. And most importantly, it puts citizens first.
