Two Assam Police officer posted at Jaipur Police Station, Cachar suspended after they caught extorting money from transport vehicles passing through the area.
The officers, identified as Debu Ghosh and Jalil Uddin, allegedly demanded bribes ranging from ₹2,000 to ₹5,000 from transporters, threatening to block their passage if they refused to pay.
The illegal activity came to light after a video went viral on social media, showing the officers collecting money from passing vehicles. Acting swiftly, senior police officials launched an inquiry and caught the duo red-handed while extorting money from a truck transporting areca nuts.
A local driver secretly recorded the act and uploaded it online, sparking widespread public outrage. Following the viral video, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Cachar suspended both officers with immediate effect, pending a departmental inquiry.
