The Assam Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched a state-wide crackdown after uncovering a major racket involving forged educational certificates allegedly used to secure government teaching jobs.
According to officials, the CID has registered 15 to 25 cases so far, with investigations progressing rapidly. The inquiry centers on fake Graduate and Post-Graduate certificates reportedly issued in the name of Techno Global University, Madhya Pradesh.
Preliminary findings indicate that around 50 candidates may have submitted forged documents while applying for teaching positions in the Education Department. Several suspects are currently absconding, and multiple teams have been deployed to track them down.
On Wednesday, CID teams carried out coordinated searches and verification drives across several districts, including Nagaon, Dhing, South Salmara, and nearby areas. Officers scrutinized records, questioned individuals, and seized documents believed to be connected to the scam.
Officials say the crackdown is intensifying as the scale of the fraud appears much larger than initially suspected. More detentions and arrests are likely in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the Education Department has begun reviewing recent appointments to identify questionable credentials and ensure that only legitimately qualified candidates are retained in government teacher posts.
