Assam Cabinet Steps Up Relief and Policy Push
The Assam Cabinet has taken major steps to support flood-hit regions and strengthen long-term growth. The latest decisions focus on relief, education, clean energy, and financial stability. As a result, people across affected districts may see faster recovery.
First, the government rolled out urgent flood relief measures. Flood-affected families will receive ₹15,000 as immediate aid. This will begin from August 2 or 3. At the same time, officials will start a detailed damage survey on August 7. The survey will cover Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat, and Golaghat. Moreover, authorities must complete it within 15 days.
In addition, the education sector received strong support. The government has allocated ₹8 crore for school uniforms. Free textbooks have already been sent. So, students can return to classes without delay. Schools damaged by floods will also get ₹2–3 lakh for cleaning and repairs. If conditions improve, classes may resume from August 9.
Meanwhile, the focus is not only on short-term help. The state is also planning long-term recovery. A team of ministers will visit flood-hit areas to monitor progress. Besides that, special development packages are in the works for Charaideo and Sivasagar. These plans aim to rebuild roads and key infrastructure quickly.
Insurance Relief and Clean Energy Boost
Alongside relief, the Assam Cabinet is also addressing financial stress. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will meet insurance companies on August 5. The goal is clear. Faster claim settlements and fair processing. Discussions will include motor, livestock, and life insurance claims. This move may help families receive payments without delay.
At the same time, the Chief Minister will meet NBFCs. Talks will focus on easing loan burdens. The six-month moratorium on repayments will be reviewed. This step can give borrowers much-needed relief after losses caused by floods.
On another front, the Cabinet approved the Compressed Biogas (CBG) Policy 2026. This is a key move toward clean energy. The policy introduces a single-window clearance system. It also offers incentives to attract investment. As a result, the state aims to boost sustainable infrastructure.
Environmental protection also received attention. Two areas in Goalpara—Rakhyasini and Tharko Nalbari—are now reserve forests. This will help increase green cover and protect biodiversity.
Further, the Cabinet approved reforms to ease business compliance. Legal Metrology rules now allow self and third-party certification. This reduces delays and simplifies processes. In addition, updates to Animal Husbandry service rules aim to ensure fair recruitment and better working conditions.
Overall, these decisions show a balanced approach. On one hand, immediate relief is being delivered. On the other, long-term growth and sustainability are being planned.
