Assam Cabinet Decisions 2026: Big Push for Jobs and Urban Growth

The Assam Cabinet has rolled out a set of key decisions that could shape the state’s future. The announcements, made on June 13, 2026, focus on employment, development, and long-term planning. These steps show a clear push towards growth.

First, the government has approved the rollout of the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission. This scheme will begin from July 1. It aims to create jobs and improve livelihoods across Assam. As a result, many young people may find new opportunities. The focus is simple—more work, better income.

At the same time, the Assam Cabinet has taken a major call on Aadhaar enrolment. Fresh Aadhaar registration for adults above 18 years has been restricted. However, there are clear exceptions. People from ST and tea garden communities can still enrol. They have time until March 31, 2027. Also, those below 18 years remain unaffected. So, while the rule is strict, it still leaves room for inclusion.

Focus on Urban Growth

Next comes a big move for city development. The cabinet has approved the creation of the Guwahati Satellite Cities Development Authority (GSCDA). This body will act as a Special Purpose Vehicle. Its role is to plan and develop satellite towns around Guwahati.

This step matters. Urban areas are growing fast. Therefore, better planning is needed. With GSCDA, the government wants to reduce pressure on the main city. At the same time, it aims to improve infrastructure in nearby regions. Roads, housing, and services could all see upgrades.

Overall, these decisions reflect a clear direction. On one hand, there is a push for jobs. On the other, there is a strong focus on urban planning. Together, they support the vision of a developed Assam.

In conclusion, the Assam Cabinet has taken steps that balance growth and control. The coming months will show how these plans work on the ground.
